AMVIP TFPO Roadmap Setting Workshop 2025

AMVIP Task Force on Project Optimization (TFPO) Roadmap Setting Workshop

Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

27th February 2025

The AMVIP TFPO Roadmap Setting Workshop was successfully conducted on 27 February 2025 in conjunction with the 5th AMVIP Annual General Meeting (AGM). The workshop served as a strategic platform for industry professionals, researchers, and practitioners to collaboratively deliberate on project optimization challenges and to establish actionable roadmaps for 2025 and beyond. The session reinforced AMVIP’s commitment to driving quality, cost efficiency, safety, and timely project delivery across key industrial sectors.

Objectives of the Workshop

The AMVIP TFPO Roadmap Setting Workshop was organised to provide a structured platform for industry practitioners, technical experts, and stakeholders to collectively deliberate on key challenges in project execution and asset management. The workshop aimed to align industry perspectives on achieving project optimisation in terms of quality, cost efficiency, safety, and timely delivery, particularly within materials, corrosion, coatings, insulation, vibration, and sustainability-related disciplines. Through collaborative discussions and expert input, the workshop sought to establish clear strategic directions and priority action areas for 2025 and beyond, supporting continuous improvement across multiple industrial sectors.

Workshop Highlights

The workshop commenced with a welcoming address by Puan Siti Haslina Ramli (PETRONAS GTS), setting the context for the TFPO initiatives. This was followed by a presentation of the 2024 market survey findings and gap analysis by Ir. Ahmad Abdullah (PETRONAS GTS), which provided valuable insights into prevailing industry practices, existing gaps, and areas requiring coordinated improvement.

The workshop also featured a tabletop exhibition and dedicated networking sessions, offering participants opportunities for direct engagement with industry solution providers and peers, and fostering meaningful professional exchange across sectors.

Key Highlight: Industry-Academia Collaboration

A key highlight of the workshop was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the AMVIP and the University of Nottingham Malaysia, marking an important milestone in strengthening industry academia collaboration.

The MoU was formally represented by Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Shahir Liew, Vice Provost for Research and Knowledge Exchange, and Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Teo Fang Yenn, Associate Dean (Industry Liaison & Accreditation), Faculty of Science and Engineering, on behalf of the University of Nottingham Malaysia. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing research engagement, knowledge exchange, and professional development in areas aligned with project optimization and MVI-related disciplines.

Technical Focus Group Presentations

A central component of the workshop was the series of Technical Focus Group presentations, where appointed Chairs and Advisors shared updates, industry observations, and strategic inputs within their respective domains. The Corrosion focus area was presented by Ir. Ong Hock Guan (Oil and Gas Professional), providing insights into prevailing challenges and best practices from an oil and gas professional perspective. Updates on Welding and Fabrication were delivered by En. Mohd Zamri Jaafar (PETRONAS GTS), highlighting key technical considerations and industry expectations.

The session on Sustainability and Decarbonisation was presented by Ir. Ts. Raymond Lam (PETRONAS Carigali), emphasising the importance of sustainable practices and alignment with energy transition goals. Developments in Vibration and Rotating Technology were shared by Dr. Yon Kong Chen (VRG Dinamik Sdn. Bhd.), focusing on reliability, performance, and operational considerations. The Protective Coatings and Thermal Insulation focus area was presented by Puan Nurjaimi Ali (PETRONAS GTS), addressing current practices, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Collectively, these presentations facilitated focused technical discussions on industry gaps and collaborative solutions, contributing directly to the development of a cohesive and industry-relevant AMVIP TFPO project optimization roadmap.
